Trips and residential visits
We have a range of visits each year which are linked directly to the children's learning. These visits can be used as a hook at the start of the topic, an opportunity to develop more knowledge during a topic or as consolidation of learning at the end of a topic. Potential visits are evident on the 2 year rolling programme documents you can find in the curriculum area of the website.

Now>press>play engages all children through sound, story and movement. It helps children to access the curriculum by integrating experiential learning into our classrooms
Now>press>play is an amazing resource which transports children into different times and places through audio story telling. Children become part of the story moving around as a character involved. This really supports both their engagement and knowledge of what they are learning and the practical experience definitely makes it memorable. We have mapped out the opportunities for the children in our curriculum plans.
Working with community partners
At Acomb First School we believe it takes a whole community to raise a child so our engagement with the local community is very important to us. Recent links with community partners has included:
- Working with the WI to develop our sewing skills. The wonderful ladies supported all year groups to create the most beautiful bunting to use as part of our Queen's Jubilee celebrations.
- Some of our older children attended a Community Cohesion Anti-Litter Campaign Day at Hexham Middle School where they made a plan of how as a community we could improve the litter in the area. As a result of this work, the children requested an eco club. Mrs Grey, this term, is now running a Green Club which combines forest school and explores eco issues.
